Inference of phylogenetic relationships based on insertions of retroposons
We analyze phylogenetic relationships of many animals. To understand
phylogenetic relationships, it is indispensable to understands how these animals
evolved and diverged to yield various species.
We use a unique technique based on insertion of the SINE, which is one
of the transposable elements dispersed among the genome of various animals.
This
method gives us phylogenetic trees with higher confidence compared with the
ordinary analyses.
We are currently investigating the phylogenetic
relationships of various animals from mammals (whales, dolphins, bats,
hedgehogs, and moles), birds (penguins) and reptiles (tortoises).
